Dreaded Anti-Internet Gambling Law Passes

How will people get around this? It will be near impossible to fund accounts or receive funds from accounts for those living in the US.

Let's not jump to conclusions pappy. The bill provides a protection mechanism for banks and financial institutions. Hence they realize its virtually impossible to hold FI's legally responsible for processing payments to/from sportsbooks. With E-wallets and other payment methods available at the current moment, and you can bet, that in the very near future this very legislation will spurn numerous other methods to fund/withdraw from offshores.

neteller is not an american company, hence does not have to abide by american legislation. Although, if they knowingly process payments from offshores to/from american citizens bank accounts the DOJ could go after them.

To those of us who have been wagering offshore for a while, and are betting with a trusted sportsbook, don't worry, you'll collect your money one way or another when requested.

I really think its very premature for anyone to start to get all uptight about this. We need to wait and see whats going to happen over the next several months. I'm certain that in the VERY near future the offshores will have a way of sending, and receiving, to make it not appear that it is to/from an offshore. Many already have this in place.

Ralph, not all that up-to-date with this bill but heard that some accounts are freezing their US customers and only allowing them to withdrawal their deposits. You think that the accounts are safe or is it a good time to pull out before they sign this thing?

Yes, Reaves, I'll have a solid recommendation for you in the very near future.

After this bill is signed, financial institutions have until June of next year to reach compliance. Actually its going to be impossible for them to comply, hence the language not holding them legally accountable unless they themselves have an online gaming site. For the moment just sit tight, I'm in the midst of contacting offshore owners that I personally know, and will give you my best advice afterwards.

The bill does not go after the gambler, but american banks and credit cards from which people send money to the middle man (like neteller) will no longer be dealing with middle men who cannot guarantee compliance.

I am more upset with the way the bill got in then with the content of the bill. AND...it was a voice vote to tack it on to the end of the safe port bill, so no one knows for sure WHICH senators voted which way making them unaccountable here.

UGGHHH!!!

Wanted to check back in...how are Americans making transactions with offshore books? What is the best way to get back into sports wagering for those living in the US? I keep hearing horror stories on sports talk radio about people losing their money, but I do not know what to believe for sure.

Thanks in advance.

I use Western Union for my deposits into PokerStars. Have to do it at an agent location though (grocery stores, KMart, etc.), not on-line. Not sure how many, if any, off shore books offer Western Union transactions. Anybody know any?

So it has been a few years since I visited here regularly or did any online gambling, surpsied my account is still active and that I remembered the password. I may be looking to get back into the game some, but obviously a lot has transpired law wise since then. It seems like bodog is a very popular choice these days and Im wondering how confident I should be that my money wont "disappear" as well as ease of deposit/withdrawl being that I live here in the good ole USA.
